How to Keyword AI-Generated Images for Stock (Midjourney → Adobe Stock)

Selling AI-generated images on stock marketplaces is now a real business — and the bottleneck almost never the image. It's the metadata. When you can generate a hundred usable images in an afternoon, keywording them one by one becomes the thing that actually limits your output. Here's how to keep up.

First: declare AI content correctly

Before anything else, get the compliance right. Adobe Stock requires you to declare generative-AI content during submission and to title it descriptively. Recognizable real people, brands and logos still need releases or will be rejected — "it's AI" is not a loophole for likeness or trademark issues. Each marketplace has its own AI policy; read it once per platform so you're not getting whole batches rejected. See common rejection reasons.

The volume problem

Manual keywording works at ten images. At two hundred it's a wall. The math is brutal: at three minutes each, two hundred images is ten hours of pure admin. That's the real reason many AI-stock sellers plateau — they can generate faster than they can describe.

The fix is a pipeline, not more willpower.

A batch keywording pipeline for AI images

  1. Generate and cull first. Don't keyword everything — keep only the images good enough to sell. Ruthless culling upstream saves hours downstream.
  2. Group by prompt or theme. AI images from the same prompt family share most of their keywords. Keyword the group, tweak per image. (The same batch-by-theme principle that works for photos.)
  3. Let vision AI draft the metadata. This is the key unlock. A vision model can look at each rendered image and propose a title, description and full keyword set — so you review and declare, rather than author from scratch. Reviewing 200 drafts is a couple of hours; writing 200 from nothing is a couple of days.
  4. Keep keywords honest. AI images tempt over-keywording ("epic, cinematic, 8k, hyperrealistic"). Buyers don't search render adjectives — they search subjects and concepts. Keep the three-layer approach and drop the prompt jargon.
  5. Export a bulk CSV. Never touch the web form for a big batch. Keyword offline, produce a CSV per marketplace, upload once. See bulk CSV metadata upload.

Titles matter even more for AI work

Because AI images are often conceptual, a clear title does a lot of ranking work. "Surreal floating island above a pastel sea at sunrise" tells the marketplace exactly what the render is — far better than "AI art 042."

Why this is StockPhotoTags' sweet spot

This whole pipeline — read each image, draft the title/description/50+ keywords/category, keep it relevant, export the exact CSV each platform expects — is precisely what StockPhotoTags automates. Upload a folder of 200 AI renders as a single batch and get back upload-ready metadata for Adobe Stock, Shutterstock, Freepik and more. The generation was the easy part; let the describing be easy too.

Skip the manual keywording

StockPhotoTags tags your photos and videos with a title, description, 50+ keywords and the right category — then exports a CSV ready for Adobe Stock, Shutterstock and more.
